Mr. Pruden was born in Manteo, N.C., and retired from the Naval Supply Center after 33 years. He was a member of St. John's AME Church, where he was a Sunday School bus driver and scout assistant with Boy Scout Troop (NU)76. He was a former member of Bachelor Benedict Social Club. Survivors include his former wife, Thomasine Nicholson Pruden; a daughter, Josephine P. Hawkins of Fort Washington, Md.; four sons, Oscar R. Jr., Michael T., Bernard F., all of Norfolk, and Edward K., of Martinsburg, W.Va.; his stepmother, Cocheeys A. Pruden of Jacksonville, N.C.; a sister, Hazel Waller of Danville, Va.; three brothers, Paul L. of Norfolk, Ernest L. of Indianapolis, Ind., and George E. II of Laurel, Md.; grandchildren, Christen, Candace, Michael, Kevin, Brandy, Bernard, Erin and Nicholas; and great-grandchildren, Ja'Quez and Jazmine. A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Hale Funeral Home by the Rev. Steven Lewis. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. The family will be at 2724 Corprew Ave., Apt. D, Norfolk.
