He was a retired Norfolk Naval Shipyard machinist and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include a sister, Anne F. Purdy of Virginia Beach, and two nieces, Elizabeth A. Simmons of Virginia Beach and Kathleen Pollock Ray of Herndon. The funeral Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church by the Rev. Vincent G. Connery. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. Thomas Simmons, 1143 Shenvalee Drive, Virginia Beach.
