 PORTSMOUTH - Mary Elizabeth Purvis , 90, of the 2100 block of Staunton 
Ave., died July 14, 2008, in Chesapeake Health & Rehab Center, Chesapeake. 
She was born in Martin County, North Carolina, and was the widow of Elmer 
Purvis . Mrs. Purvis was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Portsmouth. 
Survivors include her sister, Elizabeth Woodard of Portsmouth; a brother, 
James Wynn of Gold Point, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other 
relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucy Pugh 
and Alethia Briley; and one brother, Paul Wynn. A funeral will be held 
Friday at 11 a.m. in Ebenezer Baptist Church by the Rev. Leroy Hill. Burial 
will be in Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. Fisher Funeral Home, 1520 Effingham 
St., Portsmouth, is in charge. Viewing will begin today at noon. The family 
will be at the residence and at the funeral home today from 6 to 7 p.m. The 
body will be in church Friday at 10 a.m. www.fisherfuneral.com.
