Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - July 21, 2000
VIRGINIA BEACH - Blake Hall Rader, 84, of the 1000 block of Little Neck Road, 
died July 15, 2000. 
Mr. Rader was born in Spencer, W.Va., and moved to the Tidewater area during the 
1930s. He was an artist and illustrator for publications produced by the Naval 
Aviation Safety Center, Norfolk, and had retired after 25 years of service. Mr. 
Rader was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army 559th 
Engineers in New Guinea, the Northern Solomons Islands and the Liberation of the 
South Philippines. He was awarded the Victory Medal Asiatic-Pacific campaign 
with four bronze service stars, EAMET campaign medal and the Good Conduct medal 
for service to his country. He was the son of the late Ofa Blake Rader and the 
late Mrs. Ruth Hall Rader. 
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jean White Rader of the home; a 
daughter, Janice R. Fary of Great Barrington, Mass.; two sons, Carlton Blake 
Rader of Suffolk and Jay Roland Rader of Washington, D.C.; and two 
granddaughters, Meghan and Laura Rader, both of Suffolk. 
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 
Norfolk, by the Rev. Harold E. Thorton of Main Street United Methodist Church, 
Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a 
charity of one's choice. The Cremation Society of Virginia is handling 
arrangements.
