Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Sunday, December 19, 1993 
Nerissa Anderson Reed of the 1300 block of Oakmont Court, a retired assistant
superintendent, died Dec. 18, 1993, in DePaul Medical Center.

She was a native of Big Stone Gap, VA, and the daughter of the late Rufus and
Minerva Griffith Anderson. She was retired from Norfolk Social Services Bureau
after 32 years. She was a member of Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate
Conception Church in Norfolk, St. Mary's Womens Club, the Eurcharistic Ministry,
the Bereavement Committee, and Church Women United. She was a cashier for the
credit union and a financial counter for the church. She was a graduate of
Barber Scotia College, North Carolina College (now North Carolina Central
University). She also studied at the Richmond Professional Institute School of
Social Work. She was also a member of the Bonn Tonn's.

Survivors include her husband, Robert T. Reed; a daughter, Helen Reed Thompson;
grandchild, Nerissa Viola Thompson; son-in-law, Darryl C. Thompson; a nephew,
Harry Anderson of Detroit, MI; nieces, Faye Coleman and Wilma W. Suiter; and a
sister-in-law, Minetta Webb.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Basilica of St. Mary of
the Immaculate Conception Church by Father Walter C. Barrett. Burial will be in
Calvary Cemetery . Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Riddick Funeral
Service. The family will be at her residence.
