He was a native of Norfolk, VA, the son of the late Noah and Amy Reid and a former member of Bank St. Baptist Church. He moved to Washington several years ago and engaged in the tailoring business for many years until he retired in 1940 due to failing eyesight. Funeral services were held in Washington, DC, November 16 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. H. Brown, pastor of the Good Will Baptist Church officiating at the McGuire Funeral Home. The body was brought to Norfolk Sunday, November 18, for burial. Prayer services were held at King’s Funeral Home by the Rev. J. B. Henderson, pastor of the Bank St. Baptist Church. Interment was in West Point Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Reid; a son, William Elsworth Reid; a grandson, Elsworth Reid Jr. of Washington, DC; two sisters, Misses Elizabeth and Ida Reid and a daughter, Miss Amy Reid of Norfolk.
