His funeral will be attended at the First Presbyterian Church THIS (Friday) AFTERNOON at 4 1/2 o'clock. Friends will please attend without further notice. ************************* Death of Another Old Citizen We have been recently under the painful duty of chronicling the death of several of our oldest and most respected citizens. Mr. George Reid, Sr., another one of the same class, died at his residence, No. 261 Main Street, about half past 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon after about a week's illness. On Friday evening last Mr. Reid, while engaged in conversation with members of his family, was suddenly rendered unable to articulate and it was soon discovered that he was suffering from a severe paralytic stroke. From this he appeared some days since to rally. His condition afterwards, however, became more serious, his death following yesterday as stated. Mr. Reid was a native of this city and a lifelong resident. He was in the 77th year of his age at the time of his death and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was also one of the original members of the Norfolk Light Artillery Blues. The funeral will take place this (Friday) afternoon at half-past 4 o'clock from the First Presbyterian Church. ******************************************************************************** The funeral of Mr. George Reid, whose death has already been noticed in our columns, took place yesterday afternoon from the First Presbyterian Church and was largely attended. The services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Dr. George D. Armstrong, and at their conclusion the remains were borne to Elmwood Cemetery and there interred. The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: John B. Whitehead, James Y. Leigh, John Nash of Portsmouth, George Tait, William H. Broughton, Jacob Vickery, Robert W. Santos and W.D. Reynolds. The N.L.A. Blues, of which company Mr. Reid was, as before stated, one of the original members, were present at the funeral in citizen's dress.
