The daughter of the late William and Martha Harper, she was the sixth child in a family of three boys and three girls (Theodore, Samuel, William, Mary and Bernice Harper). Geneva resided in the Lindenwood section of Norfolk and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School with academic honors. In August 1933, Geneva was joined in holy matrimony to Lovies Edward Gilliam and to this union a daughter was born. Following the death of Lovies in 1950, Geneva was employed by the STOP Program of Chesapeake. In 1960, Geneva became the wife of Thomas Revell and they made their home in the Inglenook section of Norfolk. Mother Revell was a member of New Hope Church of God in Christ under the pastorship of the late Dr. Herman Clark, where she served as president of the Missionaries, a frequent speaker on the church's radio broadcast, member of the Mother's Board and a Young Adult Bible Class teacher. She continued her many activities under the new leadership of Pastor Calvin Durham until her health began to fail. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Joyce Gilliam Brown (Cleveland); a special son, Raymond Bancroft; two grandsons, Barry Brown and Bertram Brown; two granddaughters, Deirdra Brown Fleming (Kerry) and Lisa Revell Thomas (Carl); two sisters-in-law, Velma Gilliam and Odessa Boone; four goddaughters, Kathy Stith Menifee of Alexandria, La., Deshonn Bell of Virginia Beach, Margaret Green and Rebecca Williams Brown, both of Norfolk; four nephews, Edwin Harper, Samuel Allen, Lovies Gilliam and David Gilliam; 10 nieces, Elfreda Davis, Ethel Harper, Doretha Allen, Alverta Littles, Frances Giddens, Pearl Johnson, Cynthia Gilliam, Regina Ward, Sandra Boone and Tina Wilson; her dear friends residing in New York, Nora Marshall, Mary Ramey, Irita Williams, Thelma Gordon, Barbara Barnes, Beryl Small, Mina Baker, Carol Foxx, Betty Scantlebury and Ann Early, all of White Plains, N.Y., Alice Woodyard of the Bronx, N.Y. and Cheryl Fre Hiwet of Trinidad; and a host of great-nieces and -nephews who reside in many locations across the U.S.A. and her loving church family. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in New Hope Church of God In Christ, 3232 Brest Ave. Pastor Calvin A. Durham will officiate. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. Friends will assemble at the church. A wake will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Metropolitan Funeral Service, Granby St. Chapel.
