He was raised on the banks of Mud Creek outside Ringling, Oklahoma by his mother and late step-father Thomas Choate with his late sisters, L’Lue (George) Thurman, Margie (L.D.) Fowler and Irene (Ronnie) Rumsey, and his late brothers, Homer and Ollie Choate as well as his late step- siblings Earnest, Nate, Alice, Florence, and Nettie Choate. He was raised farming and ranching and attended Union Hill School with many adventures that lead to many stories for him to tell. He joined the Army at the last part of WWII and was stationed at Fort Polk, LA. After, he joined the US Navy, was stationed on the USS Benner in the South Pacific, and became a Boatswain’s Mate. When his ship did an around-the-world cruise on their way to Rhode Island, it pulled into the Brooklyn Shipyard and during this time he met Patricia Higgins, his sweetheart for life. They married August 8, 1954, and were happily married for 68 years. He would be stationed in Norfolk, VA, right after, where they would raise their children and build a loving family and home. CWO4 Reynolds had a proud 30-year career in the Navy. In retirement, he enjoyed his time with his family and spending time in Oklahoma ranching with his brother-in- law, George Thurman. Mr. Reynolds also spent many years working and volunteering for Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia. His beloved wife Patricia Reynolds predeceased him. His children and their families survive him. He was the proud and loving father of Eugene “Zeke” (Tamie), Patricia, Matthew (Lynne) and Kathleen Reynolds and Kelly (Seth) Hill. He was the loving Poppy to his grandchildren, Leah (Mike) Reynolds Wyand, Nicole (Lyle) Joyner, Amy Lynne (Joseph) LaMontagne, Donald “Donnie” (Abbey) Ward, Eli Hill, Barry Lanier, Kristen (Jonathan) Sanders, and Karen (Steve) Jaroma. He is survived by great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Emma, Joslynne, Joseph, Jack, Lilly, Taylor, Raven, Emily, Cameron, and Everly. His beloved sisters-in-law, Shirley and Judy Choate and Angela Higgins and many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive him. He was also predeceased by his brothers-in-law James, Matthew (Marie) and Edwin Higgins. The family invites you to celebrate Gene’s life with them at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 8464 Tidewater Dr., Norfolk, VA 23518, on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 6pm to 8pm and the funeral service Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 11am at the funeral home.
