Mr. Reynolds was an attorney at law with the firm of Reynolds, Smith and Winters. Born in Norfolk, he was the son of the late Charles E. Reynolds and Mary Virginia Simpson Reynolds. Allan's legal career began while he was still in high school. A shortage of adult men during World War II prompted a local attorney to hire Allan to assist in the investigation of insurance claims. Following his graduation as salutatorian of Granby High School, Class of 1946, he entered the U.S. Army for one year of service, until he was honorably discharged to return to Norfolk and begin his studies at the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary (now Old Dominion University). Allan later transferred to the University of Virginia where he completed his studies and obtained his law degree. Allan had practiced law continuously in Norfolk for the past 50 years, always specializing in insurance defense. He was a past president of the Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar Association, was elected to the American College of Trial Lawyers, was a member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference, and was listed in the civil practice section of "The Best Lawyers in America." Allan was an active member of First United Methodist Church, serving as a choir member, as chairman of the Trustees, and as a Sunday School teacher for the Cameron Keene Bible Class. Early in his career, he was active in the Norfolk Jaycees, and served as their president. He was a member of Cedar Point Club where he enjoyed one of his passions, playing golf.
