CHESAPEAKE – Johnie L. Rhodes, 79, of the 1700 block of E. Rockwood Drive, died 
May 22, 1987, in a hospital.
Mr. Rhodes, a native of Norfolk County, retired from International 
Longshoremen’s Association Local 1248 after 30 years of service. He was a member 
of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and ILA Retired Men’s Association Local 1248.
Survivors include a daughter, Blanche Rhodes of Norfolk; a sister, Anna James of 
Philadelphia; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be at noon Tuesday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church by Father 
Walter Barrett. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A Christian wake will be 
held from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church.
The family will be at 5366 Bellefield Road, Norfolk. Viewing will begin at noon 
Monday. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building 
Fund or to ILA Retired Men’s Association, 1124 Wide St., Norfolk. Chatman 
Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
