Norfolk Virginian December 16, 1882

RHODES - At his residence in Newbern, N.C., at 10 o'clock a.m. Saturday, 
December 15th, 1882, JESSE M. RHODES, after a lingering illness, aged 54 years, 
8 months and 27 days.
His funeral will take place from the Freemason Street Baptist Church on TOMORROW 
(Sunday) at 3 o'clock p.m. Friends and acquaintances of the deceased are 
respectfully invited to attend.

NOTE:  Dec 15 was a Friday

The body of the late Captain J.M. Rhodes, whose death was mentioned in 
yesterday's VIRGINIAN, arrived in the city over the Elizabeth City railroad 
yesterday and was carried to the residence of his son. The funeral will take 
place from the Freemason Street Baptist Church this afternoon at 3 o'clock and 
the body will be buried with Odd Fellows' ceremonies.

The funeral of Captain J.M. Rhodes took place from Freemason Street Baptist 
Church Sunday afternoon, Rev. W.W. Wood officiating.  The body was buried at 
Elmwood.
