CHESAPEAKE - Kathy Newsome Rhodes, 63, passed away Jan. 22, 2011. She was born in 
Norfolk to the late John W. Newsome Sr. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary 
Ann Newsome. Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Catherine Hipple "Kitty" 
Newsome; her daughter, Kelly Gunning; grandchildren, Holly, Sydney and James; one 
sister, Margaret "Peggy" Sinkking; one brother, John Jr. and wife Anita and many 
nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their most sincere gratitude 
to all medical personnel who cared for Kathy; also to many friends for their 
prayers and support. We would also like to give a special thanks to Stanley and 
Patti Rhodes. At Kathy’s request, no services will be held. A private burial will 
be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 5 at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations may 
be made in memory of Kathy to the American Heart Association.
