He had been ill for three months. Born in Norfolk, he was a son of the late Arthur Eugene and Mrs. Eva Haskett Rice. He was the husband of Mrs. Lillian Berg Rice. His reportorial duties on the newspaper included the police beat and general assignments before he became Southside reporter. An Army veteran of World War II, he held a lieutenant's commission. He attended the University of Michigan. Besides his wife, surviving are three sisters, Miss Helen A. Rice and Mrs. W.F. Johnson, both of South Norfolk, and Mrs. Thomas G. Warrick of Norfolk, and one brother, Cecil M. Rice of Sylvania, Ohio. A funeral service will be held at Francis A.
