Jocelyn Montier Rice, 80, of the 1400 block of Proescher St., passed quietly and
peacefully into eternal rest on Jan. 16, 2004, in the comfort of her dau- ghters
home with family at her side. She was a native of Norfolk and the daughter of
John and Julia Montier . She was the wife of Bruce Rice.

Mrs. Rice taught school for over 42 years. She began her career as an elementary
school teacher in Pasquotank County, N.C., and taught for 16 years. She joined
the Norfolk Public School System in 1960 and retired as a reading teacher from
Meadowbrook Elementary School in 1986.

She was a faithful member of St. John A.M.E. Church where she served on the
Steward Board No. 2, the Mary C. Williams Missionary Circle and the Uptown
Fellowship Group. She was also a member of the Huntersville Civic League and the
Brambleton Senior Group.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her devoted husband of 60 years, Bruce
Rice; her daughter, Jocelyn R. Saddler; and her son, Bruce M. Rice. She will be
sorely missed by her grandchildren, Jocelyn P. Saddler, Michael R. Saddler,
Bruce M. Rice Jr., Brian M. Rice and Christopher L. Rice.

A funeral will be held on Wednesday at noon in St. John A.M.E. Church with the
Rev. Larry Hinton officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The
family will re- ceive friends at Riddick Funeral Service Tuesday at 7 p.m.
