Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Saturday, March 26, 1994 
Merler B. Ricks, of the 3900 block of Llewellyn Ave., died March 24, 1994, in
Norfolk.

Mrs. Ricks was born in Lewiston, N.C., and was the widow of Charlie Ricks. She
was a member of Wesley Union AME Zion Church, 708 Johnson Ave., Norfolk, the
Senior Choir, The Life Members Council, Stewardess Board (NU)1, Deaconess Board
and was president of the Missionary Parent Body and a Class Leader.

Survivors include three daughters, Maude R. Williams of Chesapeake, Pattie
Washington of Portsmouth and Ruth Reid of Virginia Beach; one son, James Lee
Ricks of Norfolk; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven
great-great-grandchildren; one niece, Martha Williams of Fort Washington, Md.;
and one nephew, Robert Randall of Chesapeake.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Wesley Union AME Zion Church by
the Rev. P.N. Shannon. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Friends may join the
family at 1608 Notley Drive, Virginia Beach. The body will be taken to the
church at 11 a.m. Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
