His death was attributed to natural causes. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 21, at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Princess Anne County. Mr. Riddick was a native of the county, but had made his home in Norfolk City for the major portion of his life. He first became employed at the Cavalier in 1929, and continued to work there until the outbreak of the war, when the U.S. Government took over the operation of the hostelry. At the close of the war he became reemployed at the establishment, and had worked there on the day prior to his death. Mr. Riddick, a widower, died alone in his residence. His body was found a few hours after death by fellow workers at the hotel, who stopped by to have him accompany them to work. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Indiana Fentress Riddick, and is survived by two sons, Earl Riddick Jr., and Gilbert Riddick; one daughter, Miss Delores Riddick, all of Norfolk; five sisters, Mrs. Sarah Wooding, Mrs. Josephine Hunter, Mrs. Gertrude Anderson, Misses Almentia and Mildred Riddick, and one brother, Atmore Riddick. Also nephews and nieces, Leroy Hunter, Mrs. Maria Hunter, Winfred Hunter, and Alfred Riddick. Morning Glory Funeral Home was in charge of burial arrangements.
