Rivers and a native of Mulberry County, SC, died Monday in Senior Citizen’s Village, Suffolk. He worked at the Norfolk Naval Supply Center for 21 years and retired and was a World War 1 veteran. He was a senior deacon of New Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Martha Hodges of Baltimore and Mrs. Mary L. Brown of Norfolk; four sons, Wylie Rivers, John W. Rivers, and James L. Rivers of Norfolk, and Bennie Rivers of Brooklyn; three sisters, Mrs. Sylvia Kemp, Mrs. Vetter Brown, and Miss Ida Rivers of Trenton, NJ; a brother, Ernest Rivers of Baltimore; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 3 p.m. in New Calvary Baptist Church by Dr. Milton A. Reid. Burial, with military rites, will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation at Pretlow Funeral Home will be from noon Thursday until Friday at noon, when the body will be at the church for visitation until the funeral hour.
