Mr. Roberts was a native of Norfolk and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from the U.S. Customs Service as a senior inspector in 1983 after 42 years of government service. He was the husband of Sandra Roberts. Mr. Roberts was an active parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where he served as usher, lector, eucharistic minister and altar server. He was the coordinator of the Bereavement Team for 11 years, and a member of Parish Pastoral Council and the Worship Committee. He also served on the Administration Committee and the Long Range Planning Committee. Mr. Roberts was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, Norfolk, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Juanita Wyda, Maria Clark and her husband, Richard, and Kathryn S. Adamcik and her husband, Robert; a son, Robert F. Wyda; two sisters, Marquerite Luecke and Dorothy Fisher and her husband, Tom; a brother, Walter Roberts; four grandchildren, Jessica and Lindsey Wyda, Samantha and Zachary Clark; mother-in-law, Lola McClung; and caregivers, Gloria Moore, Willie Mae Ryan and Shirley Copeland. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by the Rev. Julian B. Goodman. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Church and will be followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Blessed Sacrament Church Building Fund. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
