Virginian-Pilot, December 21, 1932
John Franklin Roberts, aged 48, husband of Eoline Pitt Roberts, and son of the 
late John Pleasants and Rosa Perkins Roberts, died yesterday morning at 4 
o'clock at the residence, 4112 Colonial Avenue. Mr. Roberts was a native of 
Petersburg and had been a well-known resident of Norfolk for the past 30 years. 
He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Lewis Binford, and a grandson, 
Lewis Roberts Binford, all of Norfolk. Mr. Roberts was a member of Ruth Lodge 
No. 89, A. F. & A. M.; Norfolk Royal Arch Chapter No. 1, Grice Commandry No. 
16, and the Khedive Temple of the Mystic Shrine. He was at one time captain of 
the patrol of the Khedive Temple, and at the time of his death was lieutenant 
of the patrol. Funeral services will be held at the residence tomorrow 
afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, the Rev. Thomas A. Smoot, D.D., pastor of Epworth M. 
E. Church officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
