P. ROBERTS, Sr., LONG BUSINESS and CIVIC LEADER, DIES Funeral Services Tomorrow at Noon for Well-Known Norfolk Man Leonard Pascal Roberts, Sr., prominent wholesale and retail grocer here for more than half a century, died at his residence, 929 Redgate Avenue, yesterday at 12:45 p.m. after an illness of a week. He was 87 years of age. Mr. Roberts, who retired from active business in 1936, was president of the former L.P. Roberts & Co., which was situated on Commercial Place and had been a director of the National Bank of Commerce for a number of years. He had been a resident of Norfolk for 75 years. Mr. Roberts was serving on the board of directors of the National Bank of Commerce at the time of his death and had been a director of the old National Bank of Norfolk before its consolidation with the Bank of Commerce. Leader in Community A native of Northampton County, Mr. Roberts was the son of the late Leonard W. and Mrs. Laura Savage Roberts. For many years he had been one of the most prominent wholesale and retail grocers in Norfolk and was one of the city's most outstanding civic and fraternal leaders. He was a member of Freemason Street Baptist Church and was chairman of the church's Fellowship Fund for a number of years, prior to his retirement in October of this year on account of failing health. His fraternal connections included membership in Ruth Lodge No. 89, A.F. & A.M., Norfolk United Royal Arch Chapter No. 1, Grice Commandery No. 16, Knights Templar, Khedive Temple, the Shrine and the Scottish Rites bodies. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Eugene L. Graves and Mrs. Milton B. Ames, both of Norfolk and Mrs. S.B. Moore, of Portsmouth; three sons, City Councilman L.P. Roberts, Jr., of Norfolk; H.H. Roberts of Miami , Fla. and Littleton S. Roberts, of Sheffield, Ala.; 16 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren. The body will be taken from the Cox Funeral Home to Freemason Street Baptist Church for funeral services tomorrow at 12 o'clock noon. The Rev. Sparks W. Melton, D.D., pastor of the church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery.
