Leola C. Robinson

NORFOLK - On Dec. 13, 2008, Leola was released to be the true butterfly she 
always loved and adored. 

Leola was born to the late George Luther Carey and Alberta Smith Carey on Jan. 
1, 1920, in Miami. She was preceded in death in her parents; her husband, George 
E. Robinson; and her beloved sister, Bertie S. Thompson. 

She received her early education in Miami. She was a graduate of Tuskegee 
Institute and received her post graduate degree from Columbia University, N.Y. 
She began her pursuit of excellence in education in the Norfolk public school 
system where she faithfully served for many years. 

She was a lifetime member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, the Chums, the Continentals 
and Kiskies. She was the epitome of a socialite who enjoyed the company and 
togetherness of friends and family. 

She leaves to cherish her memory nephew, Archibald G. Carey (Nereida); sister, 
Genoa McPhatter; niece, Jenifer Smith; goddaughter, Theta Ship; and a host of 
other friends. 

A viewing will be held at Hale Funeral Home Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. A funeral 
will be held in Saint John's AME Church Thursday at 1 p.m. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to Saint John's AME Church.
