He had been in the grocery business until about 9 years ago when he began the mail delivery route. Mr. Rodgers had gone to his barn Thursday about 8:30 p.m. to water his 3 horses which he used for delivering mail. An assailant was hiding in the barn and shot him three times. He was found shortly after midnight by his son, who upon returning home late noticed a lighted lantern in the barn and decided to investigate. He was a native of Pasquotank, N.C. and had resided in this section since he was 17 years old. His wife died last November and since that time Mr. Rodgers and his son, Paul Lee Rodgers, have continued to keep house. Besides his son he is survived by a half brother, William Rodgers of New York City. He was a member of Tidewater Council, No. 30, Jr. O.U.A.M., Lee Lodge No. 74, I.O.O.F., of Berkley and the Heptosophs of Norfolk. Mr. Rodgers was one of the best known and liked men on this side of the river.
