Rolland died at his residence on Brewer Street last night about half past 9 o'clock from a complication of diseases from which he has been suffering for some time. Chief Rolland was a man of large family, and has been on the police force continuously since 1866, when he was appointed as a private. He worked his way through the ranks step by step until he was appointed chief to succeed the late Chief Benson, who died about ten years ago. Chief Rolland had probably been on the police force longer than any one of the present members, and was very popular with those who knew him. He has been suffering for some time from his ailments, and recently has only been able to make one or two trips to the stationhouse a week.
