Norfolk Virginian Pilot December 25, 1945

William Edward Root, 43, died suddenly at the residence, 831 Redgate Avenue, 
yesterday at 7 a.m. He had been in failing health for the past five years.
Mr. Root was a native of Shelby, Tenn., had been a resident of Norfolk for 18 
years, and was a son of Mrs. Myrtle Jolly Root and the late Oliver Edward Root. 
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Memphis, Tenn. and BPOE No. 38.
For the past 15 years he had been associated with Standard Brands, Inc., as 
sales representative.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Frances Stevens 
Root; one son, Edward Slade Root, of Norfolk; one brother, Van B. Root, Houston, 
Tex.; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Root Wagner and Mrs. Alma Root Hungerford, both of 
Memphis and two nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Cox Funeral Home Thursday at 11 a.m. 
The Rev. E. Ruffin Jones, rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, will 
officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
