Rose died yesterday morning at 4:50 o'clock at his residence, 104 Hawthorn Avenue, South Norfolk, after an illness of several weeks, in his 82nd year. He was a native of Battlesburgh, Edgecombe County, N.C., but had been a resident of this section for the past 14 years, during which time he made many friends and was highly esteemed. He was Confederate veteran, having served in a North Carolina regiment and was a member of Niemeyer-Shaw Camp of Confederate veterans. Mr. Rose leaves a widow and eight children as follows: Mrs. Allen Sykes, Mrs. Pattie Dyke, Mrs. Lucy Rountree, Mrs. Lillie Smith, Mrs. Fannie Springfield, Jesse Rose, James Rose and John Rose. The funeral will take place from the residence this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and will be conducted by the Rev. Mr. Grassity, supply pastor of the Church of Christ (Disciples) South Norfolk. The interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
