He was a native of Scranton, Pa. In 1925, he joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 15. For 22 1/2 years he served his country proudly, serving during peacetime and also during World War II. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, he worked as a federal civil service employee at Naval Air Station, Norfolk, in the Emergency and Repair Section. He retired in 1967 and enjoyed a wonderful and healthy retirement. He spent many happy hours in his workshop working as a master cabinet maker and clock maker. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 63 years, Mary Molony Rosenkrans. His survivors include two daughters, Joan R. Hart of Norfolk and Mary Faye Versprille and her husband Patrick J. Versprille, also of Norfolk; five grandchildren, Catherine H. Thompson of Chesapeake, Richard H. Hart and his wife Mandy of Virginia Beach, Dana V. Callahan and her husband Billy of Virginia Beach, Mary Elizabeth V. Hagan and husband Bill of Norfolk, Kim V. Callahan and husband Pat also of Norfolk; and 10 precious great-grandchildren, Michael, Cam, Tucker, Matt, Patrick, Emma, Elizabeth, Veronica, Will, and Caroline. He will be greatly missed by his family as he was a wonderful role model and was loved and respected very much. A Wake Service will be held at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts, Norfolk Chapel, on Colonial Avenue at 7:30 p.m. today. Graveside services will be conducted by Father Brian Rafferty at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Saturday at 11 a.m. A reception will follow the graveside service at Christ the King Catholic Church, Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Hospital.
