VIRGINIA BEACH – Katherine Elizabeth Gurganus Roughton, 81, of the 5000 block of 
Sullivan Blvd., a retired self-employed seamstress, died Sept. 30, 1989, in a 
hospital.
Mrs. Roughton, a native of Martin County, N.C., was the widow of Augustus G. 
Roughton. She made costumes for the Adam Thoroughgood House and the Moses Myers 
House.
Survivors include a daughter, Mariam B. Lawler of Virginia Beach; three 
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 
Norfolk, by the Rev. Gerard Heffernan. Friends may join the family at H.D. 
Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Road, from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
