Virginian Pilot Wednesday February 17, 1943
John Harrison Rountree, son of the late Alfred F. and Carolyn Riddick 
Rountree, a native of Hobbsville, N.C., and a resident of Norfolk for the last 
40 years, died at his residence, 526 Massachusetts Avenue yesterday afternoon 
at 2:50 o’clock after an extended illness. He was 68 years old.
Mr. Rountree was associated with the produce commission business for 30 years. 
For the last 10 years, he was employed by Bisese & Console, Inc. He took a 
keen interest in church, civic and community activities.
Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Edward H. Church; two brother, Linwood M. 
Rountree, of Corapeake, N.C. and William J. Rountree, of Hobbsville, and a 
number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Rountree was a member of Park Place Baptist Church and of Corinthian 
Lodge, No. 266, A. F. & A. M. He was also a member of the Travelers Protective 
Association.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Ewell & Williamson Funeral Home, 
Thirty-Fifth Street, at Colonial Avenue, tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. 
Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
