February 14, 1902 issue of The Richmond Times, Page 5, Column 6
"Mrs. Martha A. Rountree, aged 72 years, one of the best known women in Norfolk,
died at her home on Freemason Street this morning of paralysis, with which she
was stricken last night. Mrs. Rountree was in good health up until the time of
her stroke. The deceased leaves a husband, Mr. W.D. Rountree, a prominent cotton
merchant, and two children, Albert Rountree of New York, and Miss Rosa Rountree
of Norfolk. Mrs. Rountree was born at Wilson, N.C., and was a resident of
Norfolk for 25 years.”
