The Virginian Pilot Monday July 20, 1964
VIRGINIA BEACH - Mrs. Ella Howard Rudd, 96. widow of Charles Edward Rudd and 
daughter of Army Col. James Thomas Howard and Mrs. Irene Daughtrey Howard, a 
native of Portsmouth, and a lifelong resident of the Norfolk-Virginia Beach 
area, died Sunday at 4 a.m. in the home of her nephew, William S. Sykes, 405 
48th St., where she had lived for a year.
She was a charter member and the oldest member of Elizabeth River Baptist 
Church.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Grace Howard Sykes, of Norfolk; a niece, 
Mrs. Grace D. Matthews of Norfolk; and one other nephew, Marion Howard 
Thomas of Virginia Beach.
A funeral service will be held in Ewell and Williamson Funeral Home Thursday 
at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Paul B. Logan of Camelia Baptist Church.  Burial will 
be in Magnolia Cemetery, Berkley.
