Funeral services for Mrs. Sallie Ruffin were conducted May 24 at New Mt. Hermon 
Baptist Church by the Rev. J. Powell.

Mrs. Ruffin of 2839 Beachmont avenue, died May 21 in a local hospital at the age 
of 78 after a long illness.

She was a native of Halifax County, VA, was the founder and “Mother” of the 
church, a teacher in the Sunday school, and treasurer of the church for over 40 
years.  She also sang in the choir.

The widow of the late Samuel Ruffin, she is survived by 6 daughters, one son, 28 
grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with Graves Funeral Home in charge of 
arrangements.
