The Virginian Pilot Tuesday September 3, 1963 


Mrs. Cordelia Byrd Ruffin, 94, of Norfolk, widow of Edmund S. Ruffin, and 
daughter of the late Richard W. and Mrs. Jane deJarnette Byrd, died Monday at 1 
p.m. in a hospital.
Mrs. Ruffin was a native of Caroline County, Va., and had lived here most of 
her life.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. R.B. Henry and Mrs. Cordelia Austin of 
Norfolk; four sons, Edmund S. Ruffin Jr. of Virginia Beach, Richard W. Ruffin, 
Robert D. Ruffin of Norfolk, and Dr. Julian M. Ruffin of Durham, N.C., 17 
grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
The body will be taken from the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to Cedar Grove 
Cemetery for a graveside service Wednesday at noon.
