NORFOLK - Miss Evora L. Russell of 1809 E. Lexington street died suddenly at her
home Tuesday, Feb. 22.

A native Norfolkian she was the daughter of Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Russell and the
late Robert. E. Russell.  She attended the public schools of Norfolk and
graduated from Booker T. Washington High School.  She received the Bachelor of
Arts degree from Virginia State College in Petersburg, and the Master of Arts
degree from Columbia University, New York, NY.

She taught in the Norfolk Public Schools for more than (see note) years.  At the
time of her death, she was a member of the faculty of Campostella Junior High
School.  Previously she taught at Booker T. Washington Intermediate School,
Ruffner Junior High School and Azalea Garden Junior High School.

She was a member of the Norfolk Teachers’ Association, the Virginia Teachers’
Association, and the National Teachers’ Association and the Sigma Gamma Rho
Sorority.

Besides her mother, Mrs. Sarah E. Russell, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs.
Virginia Anduza of New York City, Mrs. Sadie Roane of Kinsdale VA; and a
brother, Charles Elliott of Washington DC;  and a nephew, Jessef S. Roane of
Kinsdale.

A funeral service was held Saturday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. at Queen Street Baptist
Church with Rev. J. H. Freeman officiating.  Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with
Riddick Funeral Home in charge.

- could not figure out the number of years Miss Russell taught)
