Norfolk – John Franklin Russell, 84, son of the late Jacob P. and Mrs. Frances 
Katherine Moody Russell, died in a Norfolk hospital Monday at 11:15 a.m.
He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Viola Cherry, Mrs. Lucy Newsom, Mrs. Ida 
Courtney, Mrs. Eunice Davis, all of Norfolk; Mrs. Pearl Lloyd and Mrs. Mildred 
Park, both of San Diego, Calif.; five sons, John Franklin Russell Jr., Vance E. 
Russell, Robert Russell, Ellroy L. Russell, all of Norfolk, and Thomas M. 
Russell of San Diego, Calif.; 31 grandchildren and a number of great-
grandchildren.
Mr. Russell was a lifelong resident of Norfolk, residing at 6306 Alexander St. 
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and until his retirement 
in 1932 had been a member of the Norfolk Police Division for 30 years.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Wednesday 
at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. The family will assemble at 
the residence of his son, Ellroy L. Russell, 2758 McKann Ave.
