Norfolk Virginian January 29, 1882

RUSSELL - Saturday, January 28th, 1882, at 10 o'clock a.m. after a short and 
painful illness, ADELIA RUSSELL, relict of the late Thomas Russell, in the 76th 
year of her age.
The funeral will occur at 3 o'clock THIS (Sunday) AFTERNOON at the residence of 
her son, William P. Russell, No. 75 Queen Street. Friends and acquaintances are 
invited to be present.
The Christian meekness which had characterized a long and useful life was 
manifested even at its close, in her resignation to the will of God. Her amiable 
disposition made stronger year by year the bonds of love which united her to her 
children and her friends. Only God and those bereaved know how bitter is the 
grief when death takes from us a mother, and only in the promises of the Holy 
Word can we in our sorrow find consolation. 

                          "Of all the thoughts of God that are
                             Borne inward into souls afar, 
                               Along the Psalmist's music deep,
                            Now tell me if there any is, 
                            For gift or grace, surpassing this---
                                He giveth His beloved sleep."
