Norfolk Journal and Guide, Saturday 9, 1971 
 VIRGINIA BEACH - Roland E. Russell Sr., of 974 Whitehurst Landing road, died 
in a Norfolk hospital. A native of Princess Anne county, he was a son of the 
late William J. and Mrs. Penny Jane Russell and the husband of Mrs. Annie C. 
Russell.

He was a self-employed farmer for more than 50 years and a member of St. John 
AME Church. 

ALSO surviving are five sons, Leonard A. Russell, Roland E. Russell Jr., and 
Earl H. Russell of Virginia Beach, Milton E. Russell of Portsmouth and Horace 
M. Russell of Chesapeake; four daughters, Mrs. Edith R. Wilder, Mrs. Vivian R. 
Wood, Mrs. Hortense R. Spence and Mrs. Grace R. Ponton of Virginia Beach; a 
brother, Lorenza B. Russell of Norfolk, and a sister, Mrs. Inez H. Ross of 
Philadelphia.

Services were held in St. John AME Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery. 
Riddick Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
