VIRGINIA BEACH - JoAnn McNeer Russo, 73, of the 4300 block of Salem Springs Way, 
died Wednesday, May 27, 2009, in a local hospital. She was a native of Roanoke, 
Va., and a resident of Hampton Roads for most of her life. She was the daughter of 
the late Basil and Alma Heslep McNeer.

She attended James Madison University and was employed as a secretary for the Old 
Dominion University Athletic Office for 10 years.

She was a Roman Catholic and an active member and Eucharistic minister at the 
Catholic Church of the Ascension, Virginia Beach. She was a Sultanna with the 
International Order of the Alhambra, Padul Caravan No. 69 and a member of the Red 
Hat Society.

Survivors include her loving husband of 49 years, Augustine J. Russo, of Virginia 
Beach, and her children, Debbie Russo Marushi, and her husband, C. Barry Marushi, 
of Singapore, and Steve M. Russo, and his wife, Lisha, of Plano, Texas. She is 
also survived by her five grandchildren who affectionately called her "Mama Jo," 
Justin, Kara, Hayden, Jackson and Cole.

The Mass of the Resurrection will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Catholic 
Church of the Ascension by the Rev. Father James Parke. Burial will be private in 
St. Mary's Cemetery. The Alhambra memorial service will take place in the Norfolk 
chapel of H.D Oliver Funeral Apts. Tuesday at 7 p.m. followed by a visitation with 
the family until 8 p.m.
