Ryan, 55, Dies of Injuries Retired Salesman Becomes Norfolk's Sixth Traffic Fatality of Year A retired machinery and mills supplies salesman who was struck by a bus Wednesday afternoon downtown, last night became Norfolk's sixth traffic fatality of 1950. William Bernard Ryan, 55, of 4804 Newport Avenue, died at 8:45 p.m. in a Norfolk hospital of injuries received in the collision. Police reported Ryan was trying to cross City Hall Avenue when he was struck by a VTC bus. A lifelong resident of Norfolk, his late parents were Martin Joseph and Mrs. Elizabeth Kavanaugh Ryan. He retired as a salesman some years ago. Surviving are one sister, Miss Elizabeth J. Ryan and one brother, Emmett J. Ryan, both of Norfolk, and several nieces and nephews. The body will be taken from the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for services Tuesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary services will be conducted tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral apartments.
