Benjamin Salter of 558 Briar Hill Road, a native of Tulsa, Okla., died Monday in a hospital. Rev. Salter was an associate minister of Greater Metropolitan AME Church, where he also served as a class leader. He had retired from a job at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Salter; a daughter, Jean Thompson, and three sons, George Parker, Addison Parker and Calvin Parker, all of Norfolk; 46 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Greater Metropolitan AME Church by Dr. Jackson A. Browne. Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery. Graves Funeral Home is in charge. The family will be at the residence. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.
