Salyer Found Dead by Gas in Kitchin - The body of Fred H. Salyer, 49, was found lying on the floor of the kitchen of his home, 1116 Brambleton Avenue, yesterday about 3 a.m., death having resulted from gas asphyxiation attributed to suicide. Salyer, an employee of the Granby theater, was last seen alive about 11 p.m., his wife, Mrs. Lena Davis Salyer, told police. She said she awakened about 2:50 a.m. and smelled gas. Running out of the house, she called police. Sergt. C. M. Holschumaker was the first to arrive, and when he entered the kitchen he found Salyer stretched out on a blanket on the kitchen floor with four stove jets and the oven of the gas stove turned on. He was a charter member of the international Alliance Theater Employees. A native of Norfolk; he is survived by his wife, his mother, Mrs. Grace Hitchings Salyer; a brother, W. L. Salyer, and a niece, all of Norfolk. Funeral services will be conducted at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Wednesday at 4 p.m. The body will be sent to Washington, D. C. for cremation. Salyer, in the 50th year of his age. Funeral services will be conducted at the Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, November 20, 1946 at 4 o'clock. Friends of the family invited to attend. The body will be sent to Washington D. C. for cremation.
