Samuels, whose sudden demise has been noted in these columns, was held from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10 o'clock yesterday morning in the presence of a large assemblage of sorrowing friends and relatives. Norfolk Lodge No. 38, B.P.O.Elks, and the Knights of Columbus, of which organizations the deceased was a member, were present in bodies, as was also a delegation from the Board of Trade and Business Men's Association, with which Mr. Samuels was identified. The services were conducted by Rev. Father R.A. Drake, pastor of the church; Rev. Father John J. Doherty, of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and Rev. Father Charles Hannigan, of St. Joseph's Church. During the obsequies "One Sweetly, Solemn Thought" was touchingly rendered as a solo by Mr. John Drew. The handsome casket was covered with the rarest and most beautiful flowers borne by six colored men. The interment was in Elmwood Cemetery. Following were the pall-bearers: Mayor C. Brooks Johnston, Paymaster William W. Galt, U.S.N.; Messrs. H.S. Herman, E.J.R. Wigg, Robert Johnson, D.J. Callahan, W.T. Anderson and Colonel Harry Hodges.
