NORFOLK — August E. Sansone Jr., 94, of 711 Michigan Ave., retired owner and 
operator of Sansone Fruit Co., died Sunday in a hospital.

Born in Sicily, he lived in this area most of his life. He was the husband of the 
late Mrs. Amelia Bisese Sansone.

His fruit company was in business many years on East Main Street. When he retired 
in 1949 the company was dissolved.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Marie S. Trimyer and Mrs. Anna S. Britt, and 
four sisters, Mrs. Charles Darley, Mrs. Angeline S. Harris, Mrs. Vincie Purifoy, 
and Mrs. Eugene Caligari, all of Norfolk; a brother, Joseph Sansone of Virginia 
Beach; and two grandchildren.

A Christian Wake service will be held today at 6:30 p.m. in H.D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in Blessed 
Sacrament Catholic Church, Newport Avenue and Painter Street. Burial will be in 
St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family will be at 545 New Hampshire Ave.
