Mr. Sargeant was born in Norfolk and was the son of the late George Harris Sargeant Sr. and Evelyn Byrd Trigg Sargeant. He was a member and past vestryman of Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Norfolk. Mr. Sargeant was a retired electrical designer with Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock. Mr. Sargeant lived in Newport News for more than 30 years. He was a member and past vestryman at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Hilton Village. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Evelyn Byrd Henry Sargeant of Norfolk; his three daughters, Evelyn Byrd Hutton of Annandale, Jane Byrd McCurdy of Oyster Bay, N.Y., and Louisa Morgan Dent of Yate, England; his brother, Ben J. Sargeant of Charlottesville; and seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A church service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church by the Rev. James W. Sell. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk. Memorial contributions may be made to Sargeant Memorial Room, c/o Norfolk Public Library Gift Fund, 301 E.
