Nicodemus Saunders died Thursday, August 23, at his residence, 576 Nicholson 
street, Young Park, Norfolk.

Funeral services were held on Sunday August 26, at Queen Street Baptist 
Church, with the pastor, Dr. J. Jasper Freeman, officiating. He was assisted 
by Archdeacon Richard B. Martin of Grace Episcopal Church, and the Rev. W. 
C. Diggs. A solo was rendered by his nephew, Edward L. Gibbs, of New York 
City.

Mr. Saunders had been a resident of Norfolk for about 70 years, having been 
born in Princess Anne County, VA. He was a member of Queen Street Baptist 
Church for 45 years, having served in many departments of the church until 
recent years. He was also a member of the Rising Sun Lodge No. 2 A. F. and 
A. Masons, Eureka Lodge of Norfolk, and I. L. A. Local No. 1248.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ruth V. Saunders; one sister, Mrs. Harriet 
Poole, Norfolk; several nieces and nephews, and other relatives. 

Interment was in Calvary Cemetery with the Morning Glory Funeral Home in 
charge of burial arrangements.
