Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark June 14, 1915

George Saunders, 73 years of age, one of the best known residents of 
Berkley, died yesterday afternoon at 2:30 at his residence, Lee and West 
Liberty streets, where he had lived for many years.
He was taken sick at the Memorial Methodist Church during the morning 
service and was removed to his home a few minutes later.  He was a native of 
England, but had been a resident of this country 35 years. Until two years 
ago he was engaged in the grocery business on Liberty Street.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Alice Smith Saunders, and the 
following children:  Mrs. C.C. Stephens, Harry J. and Albert J. Saunders of 
Scranton, Pa.; David W. Saunders of Phoenixcille, Pa.; Mrs. John F. Diggs 
and Wray Saunders, of Norfolk.  He had been a member of the Memorial 
Methodist Church for many years.  The funeral arrangements will be announced 
later.

The funeral of George Saunders was conducted at Memorial Methodist Church 
yesterday afternoon by Rev. E.T. Dadmun and was largely attended.  The 
floral tributes were beautiful.  Several selections were rendered by the 
choir.  Burial was in the family lot in Magnolia Cemetery and the 
pallbearers were:  Severn Webb, Captain William Owens, Joe Thomas, William 
Leyburn, I. Berkley, Major M.C Keeling, R.S. Long and John O'Connor.
