Mrs. Susan Gay Saunders, 71, of 1846 E. Ocean View Ave., retired Norfolk School 
Board nurse, died Monday in a New York hospital.
A native of Hinton, W.Va., she was the widow of William Terry Saunders and a 
daughter of Paul L. and Mrs. Blanche Nann Gay.  She lived in Norfolk 50 years.
She worked as a nurse in the school system from 1943 until 1959, serving at 
Granby High School a number of years and at several other city schools.  She 
was a substitute nurse in 1960. 
She was the founder of Future Nurses Class of Virginia and was a member of 
Episcopal Church of the Advent.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Joseph M. Shannon of Norfolk; two sons, William 
Terry Saunders Jr. of Norfolk and Paul Gay Saunders of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, 
Mrs. Edgar S. Webster of Norfolk; and a brother, G. Pettus Gay of Buchanan, 
W.Va.
A funeral service will be held in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments today at 4 
p.m. by the Rev. Reginald C. Groff of Episcopal Church of the Advent.  Burial 
will be in Elmwood Cemetery.  The Order of Eastern Star will conduct a ritual 
service at the grave.
