Virginian-Pilot  December 30, 1917
John M. Savasta died yesterday afternoon at 1:40 o'clock at his residence, 226 
Twenty-sixth street, following a brief illness. Mr. Savasta was a well-known 
musician and was a former United States Navy bandmaster. He was a native of Italy 
and had resided in Norfolk two years. He was 62 years old. Surviving him are his 
widow, a daughter, Miss Helen Savasta, and a son, John Savasta. The funeral will 
take place this afternoon at 3 o’clock at the residence, and will be conducted by 
Rev. P. P. Brennan of St. Mary's Catholic church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s 
cemetery.
