Sawyer, aged 61, of 609 Payne street, died yesterday morning at 2 o'clock at a local hospital after a long illness. He was a native of Hickory Ground, Norfolk County, a son of the late Henry M. and Mrs. Mary Anne Channing Sawyer, and is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary F. Sawyer; nine children, L.C. Sawyer, South Norfolk; Mrs. Grace Doxey, St. Bride's; H. R. Sawyer, Creeds; L.W. Sawyer, Carey Sawyer, Misses Beulah, Laura and Lillian Sawyer, South Norfolk and Mrs. Mary Smith, South Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. E.R. Curling, Hickory, Norfolk County and Mrs. A.B. Hanbury, Campostella Heights, and eight grandchildren. Mr. Sawyer had lived for many years in Berkley and was an active member of the following fraternal organizations: Lee Lodge No. 74, I.O.O.F., Tidewater Council No. 30, Jr. O.U.A.M., Chesapeake Tribe No. 50, I.O.R.M. and Goodwill Council No. 5, Daughters of America. The body was taken to the funeral home of J.R. Williams, 13 Chesapeake avenue, South Norfolk, where funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Burial will be in the family lot in Magnolia Cemetery.
