Norfolk Virginian Pilot Tuesday November 16, 1943
Mrs. Addie Powers Sawyer, 67, wife of Arthur Sawyer, died yesterday morning at 
her residence, 1107 Park avenue, South Norfolk, after a short illness.  A native 
of Moyock, N.C. she has made her home in South Norfolk for the past 44 years.  
She was a prominent member of the South Norfolk Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of the late Cornelius and Serena Creekmore Powers and is 
survived by a daughter, Mrs. Rena S. Owen, of South Norfolk; a grandson, Henry 
M. Owen; a sister, Mrs. Carrie L. Gilbert, of Norfolk; a brother, William H. 
Powers, Norfolk and a nephew.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the J.R 
Williams Funeral Home, 1027 Chesapeake avenue, South Norfolk.  Interment will be 
in Riverside Memorial Park.
